Adult Night Land of the Lemurs at The Calgary Zoo > Calgary Event Photography

On August 24, Calgary Zoo hosted their second Adult Night, after the resounding success of the first back in June. While the theme of June’s event night was ‘Canadian Wilds,’ the theme of the August event was ‘Jurassic Park and the Land of Lemurs’! Coordinators Maria and Estelle told us that the idea for the event was a collaborative effort – Lemurs and an outdoor screening of ‘Jurassic Park’ seemed like a lot of fun! It turns out, the guests agreed, because the event was yet again completely sold out!

Land of Lemurs

After the gates to the Calgary Zoo closed, we, along with the other guests, headed over to the Land of Lemurs, a hugely popular hotspot during the Zoo’s regular opening hours. During the Adult Night, guests got up close and personal with the little primates, basking in the opportunity to see them during a private tour. The intimate evening also allowed us to get some amazing photographs of the animals!

Lawn Games, Brew, and Jurassic Park

After taking plenty of pictures of the lemurs, we moved over into a grassy area, where Yukon Brewing had set up a beer tent. The prolific Canadian brewery opened its doors in 1997, and have since expanded the business out of Whitehorse, even traveling as far as the Hannover Zoo in Germany!

The Guests were outside, mingling, drinking beer, and playing games, including ladder toss and giant Jenga. While they milled about, zoo staff gave talks on dinosaurs, to correspond with the upcoming screening. Lots of people dressed appropriately, donning ‘Jurassic Park’ shirts as they moved throughout the zoo. They ate burgers, corn on the cob, mini donuts, and cotton candy as they settled in for the movie. The screen was set up inside a huge tent, with candle-lit tables and blankets for viewers to cuddle under. We photographed people settling in to watch the classic film in the heart of the Calgary Zoo.

The second Adult Night at the Calgary Zoo was another huge success. Proceeds go toward conservation, which makes the event even more amazing. It is evident that the whole team at the zoo are passionate about the event, based merely on the care and detail they put into planning. We loved photographing the event, and we hope they love their photos! The next Adult Night event is slated for October, and will revolve around everyone’s favorite festival – Octoberfest! Keep an eye out for the details of this hot-ticket event!
