Canadian Adults in the Wild June 2017 > Calgary Event Photography

To celebrate Canada’s 150th birthday, the Calgary Zoo put on and Adult night, the first of its kind for the zoo. Throughout the evening, we posted our photographs and videos to Instagram to share the fantastic event!

We began our night at the main entrance to the Zoo, on the north side of the park attached to the CTrain. Guests entered the ‘Canadian Wilds’ and were greeted with a sparkling glass of Prosecco. Bingo cards were handed out to everyone, with listings of activities and events for patrons to attend during the night. They each collected points to put toward a grand prize, which was drawn at the end of the evening.

The activities were set up along the main pathway in the Canadian Wilds, and many amazing vendors lent their services to ensure guests had tasty treats and fun things to do along the way. We photographed all the stations on the route, stopping to take shots of the volunteers who donated their time to make sure the event ran as smoothly as possible!

The musical group Occasional Notes was there, playing at different locations throughout the Zoo. A harpist played near the entrance to the Canadian Wild’s, a cellist and flutist played together in another area, and a guitarist strummed away in the park. At the end of the night, the musicians met up in the Safari Lodge to play a few pieces as an ensemble.

Kids at Heart

We also photographed as many of the animals as possible and caught a lot of great reactions from guests visiting the exhibits. Zookeepers were stationed at each location to share the unique aspects and features of each of the animals. In one demonstration, zoo-goers had the opportunity to feel how sharp an owl’s talons are, and we heard several groups discuss their findings in delight! For the guests, it was an incredible opportunity to interact with the animals up close. Some of the guests, who regularly attend the zoo with their children, had a great time visiting the zoo on their own or with friends, enjoying it in an entirely different capacity.

This was the first adult night the Calgary Zoo has put together, and they weren’t quite sure how an event like this would be received. They set up craft tables, face painting, giant Jenga, and even a photo booth in the Safari Lodge. And the visitors loved it.

You would never know it was a group of adults passing through, the way they were excited about the activities. The photo booth even created a queue that stretched across the lodge. As they say, we are all kids at heart.

The four event coordinators at the zoo; Maria, Estelle, Loree, and Robin; did a fantastic job putting the event together. All four hundred of the tickets sold out, leading to a jam-packed and extremely successful evening. It was an incredibly fun and well-run event, and we are happy to have been a part of it!
